This is the chat to start the tension pairs discussion... we'll need to have our pairs ready before the weekend, so jump in and jump in hard. If you're still confused, refer back to the post on my blog. http://davecormier.com/edblog/2010/04/08/day-4-of-futures-of-education-t...

One tension that I'm finding

One tension that I'm finding more interesting right now is community created curriculum compared with institutional created curriculum

community <-> institution (for curriculum)

More on these here http://www.gbn.com/articles/pdfs/gbn_Plotting%20Scenarios%20new.pdf check out the example on page 7.

I would like to formally retain my right to change my mind... soon.

trying to approach students to their professional field

This has always been a very interesting discussion. In our country it´s been about 25 or 30 years that experts and researchers have been trying to approach and adequate academical program that really respond to local realities. Most of the people study something and end up doing something else, some times similar to what they studied, some other times, totally different, so the levels of expertise are acquired by practicing and developing in a specific professional field.

Some intempts to solve this have been the "enterprices incubators" where groups of students get together to start a company to generate a product that solves some specific social need. This way students are invited to practice their creativity skills, train in some specific "company" roles, and propose some real solutions for the real world.

Another test is the "enterprices---universities link programs", where students do their professional practices in the industry of their field.

And a last one I can think of is the "social service" period that every student has to cover once they finish their professional studies. They have lately been directed to professional fields so the students acquire some specific abilities they will need in the future.

A successfull international Model generated in Switzerland

I would like to share a model implemented in Switzerland, Germany that showed a good results with new startup companies primarily managed by young People leaving the University. The approach is called “Technoparks” where successful young people leaving the University have the possibility of opening up an Activity with the free support of professionals in a controlled Environment. The new young Company starts like a “Spinoff” of the University, normally with the cooperation of a Professor. They are located in the “Technopark”, an professional structure with common Meeting rooms, Lab's and common administration. The period is normally limited to 3- max 5 years, with a review every 6 month. This approach showed a big success since young talented professionals have a real opportunity to succeed in their competence area.
This model originating from Switzerland and Germany is now in action in several Countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai, India etc. with a good success.
